David Bowie says "I'm gay"

Marrying women and fathering children doesn't necessarily mean that a man is straight, but it's entirely likely that David Bowie's admission to the Melody Makerback in January 1972 that "I'm gay, and always have been" was exaggerated. Certainly the chameleonic rocker used his admission of bisexuality to generate interest in his then nascent Ziggy Stardust personality, and he became a role model for future actual gay performers, from Boy George to Adam Lambert. Filmmaker Todd Haynes modelled the character of bisexual pop star Brian Slade from his 1998 film Velvet Goldmine on Bowie.
